A MUM who fears her son's happy nature will suffer by the closure of a pre-school group will be joining forces with parents, staff and officials at a meeting tomorrow.

Manor Park Pre-school, in Lower Wick, faces closure in July because its home of 25 years is being handed back to the Ministry of Defence.

Mums and staff at the school will be joining Worcester MP Mike Foster and Councillor Derek Prodger to discuss the situation and the next steps to be taken.

Sheila Knight, who has two sons - Marcus, aged eight and Kurtis, aged three - said Kurtis had been attending the pre-school since September.

"Its frightening because Kurtis struggled to cope but, because it's familiar and he's happy with the teachers, he comes home really happy," said the 37-year-old.

"Because it's a small group the children fit in better.

"My son is quite quiet and when he goes out it's a struggle, but once he's there, he enjoys it.

"He comes back so happy."

The pre-school has around 30 children on its register aged from two-and-a-half to four years old.

The bungalow is being handed back to Annington Homes, which owns the houses used by the Ministry of Defence.

"We have got the support of Derek Prodger and Mike Foster but we need action," said Mrs Knight, from Ontario Close, Lower Wick.

"The ideal situation would be to have the funding to buy the bungalow ourselves."

Alison Hitchins, head of Early Years and Child Care Service, said there was a shortage of suitable premises in Worcester.

"We've been talking to the group, giving them as much support as we can," she said.

Coun Prodger said he had been trying to help the pre-school group for two months.

"I've looked at four or five different locations," he said. "We've come up with difficulties all the time."
