NEW European laws could be a direct threat to a major car manufacturer which employs hundreds of Bromsgrove residents, the town's Tory MP has claimed.
Julie Kirkbride MP fears a directive designed to force the car industry to pay the cost of decommissioning vehicles at the end of their life, could have a negative impact on MG Rover at Longbridge.
The mum-of-one took part in a House of Commons debate on the issue last Thursday (May 9).
She believes the legislation could cause acute problems for the factory because it used to build many more cars than at present and the consequent liability of this directive could force it into bankruptcy.
"I have appealed to ministers to consider the unique circumstances of Rover and I hope my appeal will not have fallen on deaf ears," Miss Kirkbride added.
