I WOULD like to thank your newspaper for publishing events I have attended throughout my mayoral year.
I would also like to thank everyone who has supported and encouraged me.
I took over as mayor from Eric Payne, who did a fantastic job in his term of office.
The advice he gave me was, 'Go out and enjoy every moment!'
When I retire on May 14, I can look back and say: 'Yes, I have enjoyed every moment.'
It has been hard work in many respects.
My children bought me a computer to help with the many letters I would have to write and never having used one before, there were times when getting to grips with it had me in despair. After writing over 200 letters, I think I have just about grasped it.
I will have completed over 200 engagements and have filled four scrapbooks of memorable occasions.
I am so proud of Alcester. Visitors to our town have repeatedly enthused about the wonderful community spirit we have here.
I must thank the members of the town council for all their hard work. I do not think people realise how many hours are given voluntarily by such a committed group of citizens who all seem to work for so many other charitable organisations.
To the townsfolk of Alcester, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for allowing me the honour of serving you as your mayor.
Wendy Weatherhead
Mayor of Alcester
