IN Worcester a century ago, it clearly didn't pay to be too exuberant, as one newsboy found out to his cost.
Under the heading "Street Cries," the Journal carried this item: "Henry Lewis (13), newsboy, of Little Charles Street was charged at the Worcester Police Court with causing annoyance by shouting in Sidbury. PC Jauncey said the lad was making a great noise shouting papers.
''Passersby and shopkeepers had complained, but the boy protested that people would not know he had papers unless he shouted.
''The lad was fined 2s.6d."
