A Memory to Treasure. The flowers were beautiful and reading the lovely messages and looking at the photos and press cuttings of the Queen Mother, I was so glad we had decided to walk to Clarence House.

Up in London anyway for our anniversary, we thought Clarence House would be quiet the morning of the funeral, so imagine our surprise when we found crowds of people. Upon enquiring, a St John's Ambulance lady told me that Prince Charles was expected to leave Clarence House in the next ten minutes. Quite excited at this unexpected bonus, Malcolm and I managed to find a space just outside the gates and had a lovely view of Prince Charles and his two sons as they drove passed.

We then wandered down the Mall towards Buckingham palace just in time to see the Queen leave for the funeral.

We earlier decided to watch the Queen Mother's last Journey to Windsor from Hyde Park, so making our way there we found only a handful of people. Police were everywhere looking very smart in best uniforms and spotless white gloves. We asked what time the entourage would be travelling through Hyde Park and were told 12.45pm. As it was only midday we decided to go and fine some refreshment. This was a little difficult as we were in Kensington and the only places seemed to be Harvey Nichols or Harrods; no little cafes to have a quick coffee. We hadn't much time so decided to both have a fruit juice in Harrods, more for the experience than anything.

Hurrying back to our 'chosen place' with about five minutes to spare we found crowds of people had beaten us to it. Fortunately someone made room for me and I was able to see the cavalcade as it went passed.

A simple walk to look at the flowers outside Clarence House turned into a special day that I shall remember all my life.
