EVESHAM RC sent a large number of crew to Abingdon Head last Sunday coming away with four junior victories and a number of other creditable results.

The men's novice IV of Stringer, Weaver, Sadler and Nicoll, excellently coxed by Sarah Fisher, finished a noteworthy second in a field of eight in their event.

The B crew of Hodson, Hall, Ratcliffe and Langdon, rowing for only the third time together, finished sixth in the same event.

The women's IV of Turner, Cottrill, Gourlay and Pat Wilkinson, rowing above their status, were seventh in the senior event.

Evesham junior men's quad won their event in eight minutes and 22 seconds - one of the fastest times of the day.

Chris Sumner again impr-essed with a win by 51 seconds in the J16 single sculls. In the women's J14 II race, Cherri Gayton and Emma Woodedd continued their successful Head season by taking first place, some 13 seconds clear of their nearest rivals.

There was also success in J15 pairs for Chloe Farrar and Mary Dixon. This was a particularly good result as the former was rowing two years above her age group and was sculling with her partner for only the second time. The other Evesham pair of Rutherford and Dyson finished third.

In the J14 singles, Kate Wilk-inson competed against stiff opposition, finishing just second behind the National silver medallist but leaving six other scullers in her wake.

The J15 quad were only beaten by Henley, the National Championships bronze medallists.

Evesham women's J13 quads, Evesham's latest Project Oarsome group, had to row at J14 and finished a creditable third and fourth in their event.

The boys J13 quad had a similar tough task having to compete against rowers two years older in the J15 event.

However, Phoursa, Symonds, Gregory and Most, ably coxed by Sophie McDonnaugh, completed the course in the good time of 10.52.
