BARNT Green Spartak guaranteed their top four finish in Midland Combination division two last night (Wednesday) with a 2-0 victory at Cadbury Athletic Reserves.

Spartak produced a strong display against a team who battled hard but never really looked like taking anything from the game.

The visitors started well and kept the ball for long periods, playing some good football.

Spartak's first goal came on 20 minutes when Simon Pinfield reacted first to his blocked header from a corner to hammer home an unstoppable volley from 12 yards.

Dilaor Miah should have made it 2-0 14 minutes later when good work from Simon Campbell put him clear on the edge of the penalty area but Miah shot over the bar.

Cadbury had a great chance to equalise on 39 minutes with their only real chance of the game but Wayne Ashford could only hit the post with a header.

Mark Christie had the opportunity to put Spartak two clear 12 minutes into the second half.

Miah showed some magic in the middle of the park as he beat three players to send Christie clear with only the goalkeeper to beat but he rolled his shot wide of the far post.

But Christie made amends on the hour mark when he robbed Cadbury of the ball and this time beat the home goalkeeper with ease.

A needless push by substitute Wesley Gilvett in the final minute gave Cadbury a chance to pull a goal back but recalled Spartak stopper Mark Kelly saved the penalty.

Spartak: Kelly, Holland (sub Gilvett 61 mins), Uddin (sub Rose 61 mins), Pinfield, Khan, Ward, Miah, Hanif, Christie (sub Bell 75mins), Campbell, Wales.
