WHEN reading D E Margrett's letter on the subject of metrication measures, I had to check my calendar, as I thought it was April 1, particularly with regard to the ludicrous statements that I should "perceive the vastly superior practicality of metrication over imperial.... and the European Union will evolve".
Regarding the latter, I am firmly convinced that the majority of your readers wish that the EU would dissolve, rather than evolve.
Thankfully, we are not members of the euro. I'm proud of this, especially when I read, and see, the members of the euro-zone moaning, almost daily, about their big problems with unemployment, spiralling inflation, and these countries being powerless to rectify their problems.
I'm not the kind of person who takes pleasure from the misfortunes of others. But, in this regard, I make an exception - I actually laugh at them, with an element of pity in my laughter.
BILL HARRISON,
Droitwich.
