April 19 1902

FREDERICK Rhodes, a basket maker of no fixed abode, was summoned for being drunk in Bridge Street, Evesham, on April 14. Defendant pleaded guilty. Inspector Yarnold said at 10.55pm while on duty with PC Banner, he saw defendant on the bridge in a drunken condition. He would not give his name or any explanation, so he locked him up. He was fined 5s.

April 16 1927

A SERIES of lantern pictures of the life of Christ has been shown at St Michael's Church in Broadway during the week. The series began on Friday evening with the birth, and was continued nightly, the story being read from the gospels by the Vicar.

April 19 1952

AT the annual meeting of the Evesham Swimming and Water Polo club in the Public Hall on Wednesday, the president, Mr J Whitehouse, regretted the decrease in membership (137 to 95). He hoped that the club would make an effort to increase its membership during the coming season. The facilities the club offered, combined with the small subscription rate, should prove attractive.

April 21 1977

WYCHAVON council officers were strongly commended last Thursday for their help with the recent big factory fire in Evesham. The owner of the premises, Mr Ronald Speed, a former Evesham borough and Worcestershire county councillor, wrote to Wychavon planning committee saying that the competence of the officers "reflected the greatest possible credit to the committee and the council."
