EVESHAM Casuals were cro-wned Indoor League champions after a dramatic final night at Prince Henry's.

A mere 0.14 of a run was the difference between success and failure after Overbury's defeat of Elmley Castle and Evesham's win over Ashton left Hall organiser Tim Granger working out the relevant calculations.

An overall run rate of 54.20 per wicket for earned Evesham the nod and they will now represent the Evesham venue in the Worcestershire final at Prince Henry's on Monday night.

The champions restricted Ashton to a modest total of 113-3 and, unsure as to their requirements, Casuals decided to try and win the match without losing a wicket.

This they achieved thanks to some good fortune and poor fielding. Skipper Gregory led the way with 27, while Jones, Steeds and Clements all scored 26.

Earlier, Cooper's retired knock of 27 was Ashton's best in an innings that also saw good contributions from Archer (20) and Turner (20no).

Overbury came out on top in the opening match the night in one of the best games ever witnessed at the Centre.

Both teams were still mathematically in with a chance of winning the league and a superb clash ensued.

Overbury rattled up 130-2 with J Munro hitting an unbeaten 33 and receiving fine support from Haynes (23) and Gillett and Diamond (25ret).

Knowing only victory would keep them in the championship picture, Elmley seemed down and out when they slumped to 18-2.

However, Sheward and Woodford, who hit a fine 35 pulled the reply around. Overbury's nerves got to them as they conceded 42 extras, including 30 wides, as Castle inched their way to the target.

However, with last man Griffiths still intent of victory, the result was on the balance right until the penultimate delivery when Griffiths was out for 15 six runs short of a the winning post.

There was joy for Overbury but that turned to misery as the Casuals matched their victorious efforts to snatch the title.
