RUNNING for a youth charity earned Kidderminster's David Ball the "respek" of London Marathon watchers when he completed the course dressed as funny man Ali G.

David successfully ran the marathon for the second year running and raised over £2,000 for the country's largest youth work charity UK Youth.

David said: "I ran as Ali G because I'd been ski-ing and growing a goatee and in my sunglasses people said I looked like him.

"Whenever I came to a crowd of people I would say 'Ali G in da house' and people kept shouting 'booyakasha' to me.

"I thought I would have to give up after 11 miles because I had muscle problems and then after 18 miles I had cramp in the same leg.

"After that I seemed to have cramp in both legs and I couldn't straighten my legs at all but I was determined to finish although I am disappointed that my time was slower than last year."

David completed the race in three hours 38 minutes 50 seconds, finishing in position 6,486 out of 35,000 runners and relaxed later at the UK Youth's post-race reception at London Victoria's Holiday Inn.
