ABUSED children in Wyre Forest have been given a boost by the opening of a new £2.3 million counselling centre in Birmingham.
The ChildLine centre, opened by founder Esther Rantzen on Tuesday, will answer calls from eight counties at peak times on two days a week, meaning youngsters will be twice as likely to get through first time.
Midlands calls had previously been answered at a centre in Nottingham.
Wyre Forest ChildLine fundraiser Eric Kent said 200 calls are made by children suffering from a wide range of problems in the area each week, but currently only a quarter of them are answered.
The Birmingham centre is set to take calls at peak times throughout the week as more volunteers are recruited and trained.
A volunteers' information pack is available by calling 0121 452 5678.
The ChildLine number is 0800 1111.
