ONE of the liveliest events to be staged over the golden jubilee weekend will be the children's parade - followed by a street party.
Children of first and middle school age group - dressed up as "kings, queens and courtiers back through the ages" - will show off their costumes in town centre streets on Monday, June 3.
The extravaganza will start outside the Rowland Hill Centre and wind through Vicar Street, High Street and Worcester Street before the hungry stars sit down to a picnic in Vicar Street.
Clowns, street entertainers and a balloon race will add to the fun to keep the party atmosphere bubbling.
Scouts, Brownies and other groups are being invited to take part and everybody will receive a jubilee memento. Prizes will go to those who have made the most effort to produce the best costumes.
Adding to the spectacle on the streets for the Monday will be Second World War vehicles including an ambulance and a US jeep.
