ADULTS will not be going thirsty during the celebrations with Teutonic refreshments and music offering a taste of Bavaria.

The Swan Centre's main square will play host to an "oompah band," foaming tankards of beer and, possibly, enthusiasts in lederhosen - the leather shorts beloved by our southern German cousins.

The "Beer Keller Evening" on Monday, June 3 is a ticket-only event complete with trestle tables, and there will be wine to complement the beer.

Along with a balloon race, a duck race and a raffle - to which Wyre Forest businesses are contributing prizes - it is hoped the Bavarian event will raise funds to contribute to the overall £10,000 cost of the celebrations.

Kidderminster Golden Jubilee Partnership, the group co-ordinating the events programme, has applied for lottery funding to provide the remaining cash.

Any profits will go towards the next mayor's charities - child advice service Childline, Kidderminster's Kemp Hospice, and Kidderminster PHAB.

Ticket information for the beer keller evening can be obtained by calling the Swan Centre on 01562 753210.
