The property in Stourport Road is thought to date back to the early 15th century and the debate has continued for decades over whether there is an older building in the Georgian town. Jeremy Price who is selling the 'oldest' house in Bewdley.

For years Laurie and Edna Price, who moved there in 1950, entertained experts and visitors keen to see the huge oak beams in the attic which give the clearest clue to the building's age.

Mrs Price continued to live there after her husband's death 11 years ago, but now she has moved into High Habberley Nursing Home in Kidderminster her son Jeremy has put the unique property on the market.

"We have had a few interested parties come to see it but nothing definite yet. We can't categorically say it is the oldest in the town but it retains a lot of its original features and no-one knows of an older one in the area," he said.

Experts say the clue to the building's age lies in its "aisled and base-cruck" trusses suggesting that it formed part of a medieval manor house in the early 15th century.

Estate agents Toner are asking for offers in the region of £250,000. They say the property is of "immense architectural interest."
