Northfield Town Res 0, Littleton 3

LITTLETON won their 17th successive Midland Combina-tion Division Three league game on Saturday.

In the process they extended their lead at the top of the table to four points over Halfords - both sides still have six games to play.

With the very dry spell all pitches are rock hard and this one was no exception. The high bounce, coupled with the wind, meant ball control was at a premium and the first 25 minutes was very scrappy as both teams struggled to master the conditions.

Then out of the blue, Littleton took the lead with an excellent goal from Darren Reeves. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box with his back to goal, a quick turn and sidestep created the space he needed and he drove a left-footed shot unerringly across the keeper into the roof of the net.

Ten minutes later it was 2-0. Des Cox picked up the ball deep in his own half and ran all of 65 yards down the left flank. Adrian Wilde had set off on a run down the middle and he was in position to convert the resultant cross with a low drive under the keeper.

Early in the second half Little-ton added their third. Chris Bate, wide on the right, cleverly beat two defenders. His cross found Cox on the left and he controlled the ball before hammering in a cross shot past the keeper.

Littleton sensed they had done enough and Northfield came more into the game without really creating any real chances and the game meandered to the end.

The league leaders are at home on Saturday to Knowle, ko 2.45.
