TWO major fund-raising efforts will allow people with brain injuries and their carers to take a much-needed break later this year.

Headway Wyre Forest, based in Galahad Way, Stourport, is one of Stourport Mayor Mick Grinnall's nominated charities for this year and will also receive cash from Kidderminster Carnival.

The charity provides advice and support for about 100 adults who have suffered brain injury through accidents or medical trauma, and about 10 people - with their carers - will spend a week in Chichester in September courtesy of Wyre Forest's generosity.

"This money helps pay for extras," said service manager Maria Hicks. "We try to do a holiday every year and target it to different groups. This year it's a slightly less able group.

"It's a change of scene and it's a holiday a lot of them wouldn't normally be able to go on."
