ROWING: Entry forms are now available for the popular Stourport Works Fours Regatta which is set for Saturday, June 15.

The well-organised event is open to crews of four men, women or mixed from local companies, pubs, clubs and schools but they must have minimal or no rowing experience.

Organisers Stourport Boat Club will coach each crew to a competent standard in the seven weeks leading up to the contest over a 350-metre course.

Crews are split into works, ladies, pub and club and schools divisions in the race for prizes.

The division winners get engraved pewter tankards and then compete against each other for the PG Hopcroft Challenge Vase.

First-round losers also have a division to ensure everyone is still in with a chance of success.

The annual event began in 1985 to increase awareness of rowing and boost the membership of the town club.

Around 40 crews were in the event originally and every member of the winning team became established senior oarsmen at the club with some club captains and one a national success.
