HORSE RACING: Chaddesley Corbett will host one of the principal races on the point-to-point calender on Saturday.

The Lady Dudley Cup is one of the highlights of the eight-race meeting which starts at 2pm and has 269 entries in total so far.

Course management will be crucial if the race is to attract a competitive field as recent events indicate owners are not willing to risk their horses on firm ground.

Chaddesley course clerk Robert Chugg said watering began last Saturday and would continue every day unless there is considerable rainfall.

Distinctive won the event in 2000 but that could not be described as a vintage Dudley Cup and he will struggle to repeat the victory.

Welsh supporters will be looking to Cherry Gold or Sprightley Pip to take the prize back to the principality.

The latter will probably need conditions to ease to make his mark but Cherry Gold has struck form in recent weeks.

Lord Harry is one of the stars of Sheila Crow's Shropshire stable but has been disappointing so far this season, while Whatafellow could prove an able deputy for the high-profile yard.

Elliewelliewoo and Longstone Boy will not be making long journeys merely to make up the numbers, while Down proved his quality with a runaway success at the Croome meeting.

Cotswold trainer Jelly Nolan has entered three horses from her establishment at Naunton, including Fresh Prince, Mounthenry Star and Sharimage, and they are sure to make their presence felt.

Parahandy needs softer ground to make his mark, Rocket Radar has to come into the frame on the strength of his Hunter Chase win at Ludlow and Mulligan's chances are to be respected on the best of his National Hunt form.

Lochnomore's connections are keen to go for the race but the participation of the Much Wenlock-trained gelding depends on how well he has recovered from his Bitterley exertions.

Victory for Greenwich would crown another fine season for trainer Marilyn Scudamore as she has transformed the horse's fortunes in a six-race winning sequence.

Do It Once hails from Angela Rucker's stable and he carries the famous Rushton colours which have been associated with winners at the meeting since the 1930s.

Indefence is another horse to carry the royal blue with cerise hoop jersey and both horses are entered for the Ladies Open and Members.

The stable representative has Sammorello to overcome in the former, wile Stag Fight and Caught at Dawn may provide the biggest challenges in the Members.
