HOCKEY: Laith El-Khatib found his goal touch with two late strikes to keep Stourport in National Hockey League Division One.

The town drew 3-3 at champions St Albans on Sunday to avoid any relegation threat.

Brooklands must contest the play-offs after three late goals condemned them to a 6-3 defeat at Bournville, while bottom side Lewes are relegated.

Stourport finished third from bottom and were saved when 3-1 behind by El-Khatib's double from two penalty corners.

Skipper Phil Lashford scored the other goal and he declared: "We have got out of it this time but we just cannot afford to get into that situation again.

"It was St Albans' sponsors day, they were presented with the trophy and there were quite a few there so we spoiled their party.

"On the balance of play we deserved a draw though they did hit the post in the last 15 minutes."

One of Stourport's main tasks over the summer will be to appoint a new coach as player Martin Lindley is likely to step down from the duties.

Lashford added: "A lot of the players will come back next season with that experience behind them. Hopefully, that will be the driving force for better performances."
