Worcester City striker Mark Owen is set to resume training tonight after being given the all-clear by his specialist.

The 24-year-old had been suffering discomfort caused by one of the pins in his leg but that is due to be taken out next month.

The St George's Lane favourite is now going to step up his fitness during the next two weeks and has an outside chance of competing in the Past v Present XI match as part of the club's centenary celebrations.

"The specialist has advised me not to play again this season but everything is looking fine," said Owen. "I had eased up on my training because I was getting some discomfort but I think that was in my ankle ligament and caused by overdoing it.

"I'm going to work hard over the next two weeks and see if there is any reaction and there is still a chance I could play in this centenary match but it is unlikely."

n Worcester City's reserve team match was called off last night when opponents Boston United failed to turn up.
