ST JAMES' PARISH CHURCH: The congregations on Sunday were saddened to hear the news of the death, after a very short illness, of Gerald Wolstenholme, a member of the church since he and his wife, Sheila, came to live in the village 16 years ago. For his unflagging interest in, and contributions to, the welfare of the village and for his unfailing kindness to all who knew him, he will be sorely missed. A short silence was observed. Other notices given at the close of the service included enthusiastic comments on the skittles evening which took place at The Coach and Horses last Friday evening when 50 people enjoyed an excellent buffet supper in an atmosphere of friendly competition. The overall winner was Mrs Joan Banting, with Tony Phillips as second place winner and top man. Almost £100 was raised for church funds.

A reminder was given that the annual church meeting will be at 7.30pm on Sunday following Evensong.

The monthly Prayer Diary relating to the Youth Groups was available to all who normally take a copy and this reminded everyone that the Youth Groups start again this week. The Youth Project will be receiving another boost to their funds again this year when veteran runner Mervyn Huggins donates his sponsorship money from Sunday's Marathon to them. His time was 3hrs 40, achieved, he said, in perfect running weather.

HATS: At the AGM of the Amateur Theatrical Society held last week, Roland Merrick was elected as chairman and Sue Stokes as secretary, with Alan Hirst continuing as treasurer.

PRE-SCHOOL: Harvington Pre-School will be holding a sponsored Trike Ride and Balloon Race on Sunday, April 21 at 2pm, with the object of raising much-needed funds.
