DEAR EDITOR -- I see at least one local shop is now selling half litre cartons of milk priced and labelled as pints. This is clearly a case of giving short measure, but even if the items were properly labelled, it would still represent a 12 per cent price increase.
No doubt the europhiliac authorities will accept this in the same way they accept a ten per cent reduction in the size of a loaf, while consumer protection officers devote their time to the persecution of traders using English units. Why did the politicians not tell us about this element of the cost of joining Europe?
