FORGE Mill Museum will not be axed following a pledge by Redditch Council to pump £500,000 into improving it and increasing visitor numbers.

At a full council meeting on Monday, councillors revealed the museum and Arrow Valley Countryside Centre would be priorities for the next three years.

The Redditch Advertiser recently reported that the option of closing the museum was being looked at as part of a shake-up aimed at revamping services.

At the time, policy and resources committee chairman David Cartwright said options were being explored because the museum was expensive to run and the number of visitors did not justify the cost.

The news sparked outrage and concern from many readers, who wrote to the Advertiser in support of retaining the popular museum.
