Studley BKL 2 Chasetown 1

BEES keeper Matt Pugh was the hero despite prolific Craig Pountney notching his 30th goal of an incredible campaign.

The Studley custodian made a series of impressive stops - most notably a brilliant reaction save to tip over a downward header from Jamie Purcell in the 73rd minute.

With the scores level at 1-1, visiting skipper David Yates made ground down the right before delivering a delightful cross to Purcell at the far post only for the midfielder to be left holding his head.

Three minutes from time Pugh received treatment for a dislocated finger but opted to stay on with no reserve keeper on the bench, and was forced to make the bravest of saves in the last minute when he blocked a Shaun Bradbury free kick with his injured hand.

But anything other than victory would have been harsh on the hosts after they dominated a civilised opening half played out as the sun set at the Beehive.

Pountney set the Bees on their way to what should have been a routine win with perhaps the softest goal he has claimed this season.

The league top scorer cut into the area from the right hand side in the 69th minute, but his tame shot looked to offer little threat until visiting keeper Lee Jennings dived over the ball and watched it roll under him.

BKL boss Mark Chambers could only look on in exasperation as his side lost the plot after taking the lead.

With Chasetown sixth from bottom, Pountney's by-now customary strike should have been the cue for a three or four goal stroll but within a minute the visitors were level when sub Rob Powell clipped Andy Rutter's heels in the box after only nine minutes on the field and Yates sidefooted home from the spot.

Just when they were rocking BKL sealed the points - with another slice of good fortune.

Matt Pendleton drove the ball low into the area but Steven Hands completely missed it and it rolled through to the lurking Kevin Rowlands who could not believe his luck as he drilled home the winner 13 minutes from time.

And with two league matches to go Pountney has his eyes on the golden boot - life begins at 30.
