MATRONS are coming back to hospital wards in South Warwickshire, meaning a more visible role for Alcester Hospital's senior nurse, Sue Price Gough.
Modern matrons are being introduced in all hospitals run by South Warwickshire Primary Care Trust.
Unlike matrons of old, modern matrons may not wear uniforms and not all will be women but they will be a visible presence for patients and families as the person in charge.
Mrs Price Gough will support and monitor high-quality nursing care and also manage areas such as food and cleanliness, bringing control of these vital aspects of a hospital stay close to the patient.
