ARCHERS from The Redditch Company of Archers excelled themselves at the Worcestershire County team selection trials, at Evesham on Sunday.

The trials, hastily brought forward a week by county team manager Dave Harris after a clash of dattytytyes, require archers to shoot 144 arrows at a target distance of 100 yards (men) and 80 yards (ladies).

Redditch's current recurve bow champions, Pete James and Carole Holt both shot well with Holt finishing third by one point and also achieving a six gold award for scoring six consecutive golds.

Eric Thomas recorded a 'Master Bowman' score of 1196 and won the Gents Compound Bow Competition.

Redditch Club Secretary, Andy Griffin, also shot well to finish fourth in the Compound section.

Pete James, Carole Holt and Eric Thomas have all now been selected to join the Worcestershire archery squad at next weekend's inter county match in Warrington.

The County will be sending six recurve archers in both the gents and ladies sections and three compound archers who will compete against teams from Cheshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.
