A CONCERNED Barnt Green resident has lashed out at developers seeking to overturn a decision made by Bromsgrove District Council to build a housing estate on Green Belt land.

Joan Cornish, of Bittell Road, says she is dismayed at the lengths Keith Davies will go to build on Green Belt land and is calling for residents to write to the Secretary of State of Transport to voice their opinions.

Despite a 200-signature petition and support from Bromsgrove Conservative MP Julie Kirkbride against the proposal, Keith Davies is attempting to gain planning permission to demolish his home and use the land for development.

According to the worried Barnt Green resident, this would enable the developer to build a road between the existing properties leading to a housing development on four acres of Green Belt land.

The proposal was given the red light by the council 18 months ago for fear of traffic congestion and inappropriate use of Green Belt land.

"Not satisfied with the application being flatly refused last November, he resubmitted a glossy proposal," Joan Cornish said.

"In an attempt to get approval, he included apartments as part of the development. This was refused but he has now appealed to the Secretary of State for Transport and Local Government to intervene."

The Barnt Green resident is appealing to local residents to make their views known by sending three copies of the letter to the Secretary of State for Transport before Wednesday April 24.

Mr Davies is using the services of development consultants Active Permissions from Worcester. Sarah Gauntlet, spokesperson for the company, said: "We think there's enough demand in Barnt Green to build a new housing estate.

"The new road will not be built if it in any way compromised highway safety, but we don't believe it will," she added.
