WORK has started on the construction of Bromsgrove's jubilee bandstand in Sanders Park.

The foundations on top of which a wooden former, a temporary mould designed to contain the concrete base, has been put in place.

When it has set the all-steel sides and roof, which are being made off-site, will be brought to the park, off Kidderminster Road, and secured in place.

Cllr Terri Matthews, (Con, Furlongs) cabinet member for recreation and leisure, said the time table of musical events at the bandstand on Golden Jubilee day, June 3, when it is officially opened by Lord and Lady Cobham, from Hagley Hall, will be published in due course.

And a list of family entertainment being drawn up which is set to take place at the bandstand on most Sunday afternoons throughout the summer and which is being organised by the district council, will be published shortly.

Cllr Matthews said: "Apart from being used just on Sundays - we will encourage schools, playgroups and community groups to make full use of the facility when they want to stage open air plays and other similar events."
