PERMISSION to work around the clock on a permanent basis is being sought by Permadoor's Upton factory.

Malvern Hills District Council gave "probationary" permission for 24-hour working a year ago, which the firm now wants to make permanent.

Managing director Paul Nugent said this was essential for the firm to retain its position as market leader in composite door manufacture. He said: "For our continued growth, we have to have flexibility in our working hours," he said.

Mr Nugent said conditions concerning lorry movements and noise would be adhered to.

Around half the firm's 119 workers are employed at the Upton factory, on the Station Road Industrial Estate, which was built in 1990.

Upton Town Council has recommended approval of the application.
