BARNT Green Spartak need a point from their trip to Cadbury Reserves tonight to ensure a top four finish in Midland Combination division two.

Anything but defeat will ensure fourth spot for Spartak and although recent weeks have seen them drop from the league summit, a position they occupied for much of the season, chairman Avtar Singh is still delighted.

But on Saturday, a goal in the final minute left Spartak kicking themselves as they dropped two points with a 2-2 draw at second place Enville.

Spartak dominated the first half and could have put themselves in the driving seat had Jay Rose and Mark Christie taken their chances.

Enville only threatened from set pieces and came close on two occasions in the first period but it remained 0-0 at the interval.

The visitors seemed sure to take the lead on 50 minutes but Rose somehow put his shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

But Spartak did go 1-0 up five minutes later when Christie headed home a Kieron Holland free kick.

Enville then enjoyed their best moments of the game during a 15 minute spell, during which Neil Perks made it 1-1 on 67 minutes.

But Spartak were soon back on the attack and made it 2-1 seven minutes later when Rose hammered home his 18th league goal of the season.

Rose and Christie then squandered four clear chances to kill the game off in the next ten minutes but failed to make any of them count.

The game and Spartak's season was summed up in the last minute when Christie's penalty appeal was turned down.

Enville then won a corner at the other end and substitute Chris Roberts fired the ball past John Slade.

Spartak's Pershore Hospital Cup final against Pershore Town has been set for Friday May 3.

The match will be played at Pershore Town FC.
