ASH Lane tenants Dixonians did it at the second attempt to be crowned Midlands Three West North champions at the weekend.

The nomadic side tripped up last weekend with a shock defeat at lowly Old Halesonians but there was no repeat on the last day of the season when Lee Irwin's side turned over relegated Leek 32-10.

Defeat would have meant a play-off for promotion to Midlands West Two because second placed Aston OE thrashed Selly Oak 53-15 but the championship means Dixonians can start planning games against the likes of Stratford, Stafford and Derby next season.

And officials are hoping to rubber stamp the arrangement to continue their groundshare arrangement with landlords Kings Norton next season.

Dixonians have agreed to arrange home fixtures to avoid first team clashes and have imposed a transfer embargo between the sides and hope to finalise the agreement at their AGM on May 9.

Promotion is an incredible achievement for the club after a turbulent recent history which culminated in upheaval this season.

A decade ago Dixonians were playing at Wassell Grove, Halesowen, but moved to the George Dixon School they take their name from after selling the ground to Oldswinford.

A spell at the Playing Fields, Edgbaston, was followed by a move to Knightlow Road in Harborne.

But last season the much-travelled club was ousted by a dispute between ground owners the Oratory and lessees South Birmingham College.

This season they have played at Yardleians and Droitwich before settling at Ash Lane.
