A LEADING councillor put Droitwich Spa firmly on the map when she attended a national tourism meeting.

Worcestershire county councillor Pam Davey (Con, Droit.South) was among hundreds of people who travelled to Harrogate for the 2002 Tourism Information Conference 2002.

Cllr Davey, who also serves on Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Spa Town Council, returned from the two-day event brimming with ideas.

The conference highlighted ways of boosting visitor numbers after last year's foot and mouth crisis and the September 11 terrorist attack on America.

Cllr Davey said: "I have come home with lots of new ideas on how the town council's new computer system will be able to offer a better service to tourists and residents."

The computer will be stationed in St Richard's House, Victoria Square, within the next few months. It will give users access to tourism websites across the country and Cllr Davey hopes it will help people explore the country and plan holidays.
