TOWN families are being urged to unite and support a golden jubilee extravaganza.

Droitwich Spa's Royal British Legion is gearing up for a mammoth bash on Sunday, June 2, and Monday, June 3, to mark the Queen's 50 year reign.

Its Salwarpe Road headquarters will boast fun activities throughout the day and night, including bouncy castles, music, singers and a disco, with celebrations culminating in a huge firework display.

The legion, which is joining forces with the club and ladies section to host the event, also hopes to recruit lots of new members to boost its dwindling numbers.

A recruiting caravan will be open all day and entertainment secretary Rob Guest wants people to take time out to learn more about what the established organisation has to offer.

He said: "The ideals of the legion and its deep roots are still the rock solid foundations of every branch and club around the country but as with everything, time catches up with us all and a lot of the older membership is dwindling.

"While we still have older folk actively taking part in daily issues, this is now coupled with younger members injecting new ideas and keeping fresh and innovative ideas flowing through the vein of the local legion.

"At the club we offer discos, karaokes and live music to cater for all ages, including families, every weekend."

The Royal British legion offers assistance and help to ex-service personnel and their families who require it.
