A WARNDON mother fears for her children's safety because of vandals targeting the car park behind her house.

Louise Bettles believes it is only a matter of time before someone is badly hurt following a series of incidents including car fires and the dumping of dangerous rubbish.

The mother-of-two says nobody dares park there any more because of the gangs.

Miss Bettles, of Borrowdale Drive, also claims the police and Worcestershire Housing Association have done nothing to tackle the problem.

"Cars are always dumped there, and there have been three fires in as many months," she said.

"The car park isn't lit and it's pitch black at night. There's a lot of trouble at night - children run around screaming, but I didn't get any response when I contacted the police.

"The housing association's just as bad. The fences have all been ripped down, but they haven't been replaced. By the time they do it, it could be too late."

Miss Bettles says rubbish - including hypodermic needles - is dumped regularly in the car park, and the problems have grown worse during the past six months.

She and her partner, Jason Hencher, are concerned that their children - Kira, aged two, and Molly, nine months - will be hurt if they play outside their house when they grow up.

Ken Hazeldene, Worcestershire Housing Association's regional manager, said they were discussing the problems on Borrowdale Drive with the police.

"The car park is there for the benefit of our residents but, as with most car parks, it's open access and people do walk through it," he said.

"We're discussing with the police whether there may be an arsonist operating in the area."
