THE Severn Valley Railway has launched an initiative to recognise the efforts of volunteers and staff who have kept the wheels turning for the past 30 years.

Staff who have served at least 10 years at the railway will now be able to qualify for long-service lapel badges denoting the number of years they have worked there.

More than 200 volunteers and staff have already been presented with their badges, which will be worn by both uniformed and administration staff.

They acknowledge seniority of service in five-yearly increments, and each grade has a different base colour.

Peter Edkins, SVR volunteer liaison officer, said they felt it was about time the effort and commitment of volunteers and staff was recognised.

"The fact there is a Severn Valley Railway at all is a proud achievement and pride in what the railway does continues to be a constant source of motivation for all those who work for the SVR," he said.

"A long service badge fits in nicely with this broad tenet, and I am sure everyone will wear their badge with pride."
