THE Queen Mother's death may have inspired patriotic behaviour but it has not led to an increase in the number of Golden Jubilee street parties in Worcestershire.

Councils have received only a small number of applications for permission to hold street parties this summer.

Worcester City Council had received only 12 requests by the end of last week, while a total of nine applicants have contacted Malvern Hills District Council.

The story is the same at Wychavon District Council, where permission has been given to just four applicants so far.

Tom Comerford, Worcester City Council's senior engineer for traffic management and transportation, said anyone considering holding a street party should contact him as soon as possible.

"If people don't contact us by the end of this week, we may have to tell them that they are too late," he said.

"We need to talk to the police to make arrangements for road closures and diversions.

"We would advise people not to organise parties at a couple of days' notice."

However, Warndon residents will be able to celebrate the Golden Jubilee in style thanks to Warndon Parish Council.

It has organised a street party with activities and food for children aged up to 11, and entertainment including stilt walkers, fire eaters, puppet shows and music.

All children attending the party on Sunday, June 2 will be presented with a Jubilee commemorative medal.

The party will take place at and around the Lyppard Grange Com-munity Centre.

The event will cost £2 for children up to the age of 11, which will include food, entertainment and the medal.

Events will start at about 12 noon. Tickets will be on sale soon at the community centre.
