WORCESTER City remain on course to overhaul last year's points tally after a 2-1 win against Welling United ended a run of three straight defeats.

Manager John Barton was delighted with the victory which leaves them two points short of the 62 they won last year.

But the St George's Lane boss admitted old failings had resurfaced as his side conceded a sloppy goal to give Welling a way back into the match.

"In many respects you saw a lot of the problems that have dogged us all season, namely not being able to kill sides off," he said. "We went into the break 1-0 up after doing reasonably well in the first-half and then threw it all away within 10 seconds of the restart with an awful goal.

"But we stuck at it and got a winner with a quality cross from Dwaine McFarlane and we are delighted with the win."

Victory came at cost however with goalkeeper Danny McDonnell receiving the third red card of his City career and injury worries to Allan Davies, Jon Holloway and Paul Carty.

"There's no complaint about the sending off and in fact if Danny had been as positive with the first goal I think it would have been an easier victory for us," added Barton.
