COLWALL faced tough opposition in top of the West Premier League Division One (Ladies) table side Lansdown.
LANSDOWN 0, COLWALL 1
As ever local rivalry came to the fore during the match, Colwall had something to prove after their home defeat 1-0 in the last minute.
Colwall started strongly and although they had plenty of attacking play, they were held by the home defence.
The match was very even throughout with the Colwall side sticking to their task and tactics.
The team effort was outstanding, bringing out the best in all the players. Nina Emery was involved in everything in midfield whilst Jo Dinnie was a rock at sweeper.
With only a few minutes left, Colwall made a deserved breakthrough, Nina Emery's free hit was met at the left post by Cathy Hibberd, who watched as her looping deflection left the keeper stranded.
With only minutes remaining Lansdown were awarded a short corner, but, as in the rest of game, Colwall held firm to gain a win which could effect the outcome at the top of the league.
Colwall have a re-arranged game against Portishead on April 6, who are also in line for the league title.
The rest of the league concludes this weekend and will be watching for that result.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall are at home to Gloucester, 12.30pm at Ledbury Leisure Centre.
