FRESH moves are underway in Pershore to get a link road built to relieve the town of industrial traffic.

Town Mayor John Grantham wants to hold a public meeting to put pressure on Worcestershire County Council and the government to build a road connecting the Keytec 7 industrial estate with an island at the northern end of the Wyre Piddle bypass.

Mr Grantham said: "It is of vital importance not only to Pershore, but also helps people in Pinvin and Wyre Piddle who are not really helped by the bypass.

"It is also most important that the industrial traffic is taken out of Pershore and that we put pressure on the council and the government to get the road built."

Eleanor Creed-Miles, chairman of a pressure group of Wyre Hill residents, which has been pressing for the link road, said she was delighted with Mr Grantham's plans.

She added: "I am certain that some members of our group will attend the meeting. It is great that Pershore has taken the initiative on this.

"The road will be an enormous advantage to Pershore as well as the residents on Wyre Hill."

The road would help to take industrial traffic away from the town and Mr Grantham is confident of gaining support from Pershore High School, the town's civic society and Wyre Piddle Parish Council.

A date or venue for the meeting has not yet been set, but it is hoped that the meeting, scheduled for a Friday in early February, will provide a positive outcome with the backing of the townspeople.

Mr Grantham also plans to leaflet people living near to the Keytec 7 industrial estate and to contact local MPs Peter Luff and Sir Michael Spicer.
