HOAX 999 calls to the county's fire brigade service rose by 17 per cent for the period July to September compared with the previous three months.
The rise and a corresponding increase in non-malicious false alarms has prompted an investigation by Hereford and Worcester Combined Fire Authority into the cause.
"Good intent" false alarms rose by 15.5 per cent compared with the previous quarter while false alarms caused by automatic fire detection apparatus rose by a massive 43.5 per cent.
July to September also saw an increase of five per cent in the total number of fires attended when compared with the same quarter last year.
