A BIG difference between the district council offices and Stratford Town Hall is that whereas the Town Hall is only for Stratford Town, the district council offices are for the administration of the whole district which comprises about 45% of the area of Warwickshire and in which live about 110,000 people of whom about 23,000 live in the town.
These facts are often overlooked by residents of the town, and by those who think it is necessary that the offices should remain in the town centre. Certainly it suits my convenience that they should be where they are, but I voted for the proposed move to new premises in Timothy Bridge Road. I believe the move would be cheaper than to stay and renovate the existing premises. I also recognise the near impossibility of renovating and using the existing building at the same time. It must be accepted that these days, accessibility by car and the possibility of parking it on arrival are a first priority for any much frequented premises. The existing building does not have parking for visitors other than official ones, and is in the congested town centre.
