THIS is the face of a man who drove a stolen car at police, forcing one officer to jump to safety from his motorcycle before it was rammed.

Officers hunting the car thief and his accomplice have released more information following the incident in Bromsgrove, which involved a police motorbike and car being rammed by a stolen Land Rover.

The Land Rover had been taken from the car park behind Bromsgrove Carpet and Bedding warehouse, next to Hoolahans pub, in Worcester Road, on Wednesday.

The two men then met in two vehicles, the green Land Rover and a stolen Suzuki Baleno, registration number N240 NCD, outside Wilson's Petstore on Market Street at about 3.30pm.

The police motorcyclist, PC Derek Chandler, heard a message on his radio about the stolen Land Rover, and spotted it on Stourbridge Road, stuck behind a tractor.

PC Chandler followed the car heading towards the Crown pub, where a police car attempted to block the road.

The driver of the stolen Land Rover then reversed at the motorcycle and then damaged the stationary police car in his attempt to escape along Meadow Road.

The two then drove off in the red-coloured Belano, which has alloy wheels and sports trim and is a limited edition car, with only 12 made in the country.

It was taken on the same day from a car park in Popes Lanes, Oldbury, between 9am and 3.20pm.

The two were followed on the Birmingham Road to the Lydiate Ash island, where they drove the wrong way around the roundabout and joined the M5 north.

They then drove across four lanes of the motorway, including the hard shoulder, followed by a police car.

At Frankley services they left the motorway and headed through the car park on Illey Lane towards Halesowen at excessive speeds and, due to dangers to the public, the officers stopped.

Detectives are appealing to the tractor driver on the Stourbridge Road to come forward and the woman who told officers the registration number of the car. Bromsgrove police can be contacted on 01527 584888.
