MEMBERS of the Malvern Angels RFC are celebrating after receiving a grant of £5,000 from the National Lottery's Awards for All programme.

The Malvern Angels are a new Rugby Club, under the umbrella of Malvern RFC, which provides rugby for women of all ages. This grant will go a long way to help kit the team out, and provide the ability to take coaching into the local schools and community.

The Malvern Angels are working closely with the Malvern Hills District Council to provide new opportunities for all women of the Malvern Hills area, to get them interested in a sport, not traditionally seen as a woman's sport.

The Angels chairman, Barry Kirby, said: "We are thrilled to get this award. For a new group like us, it provides a great opportunity for us to really make a difference to the local community.

"It has been hard work to get to this stage. Now that we have the grant the club can really establish itself within the local area."

The Malvern Angels have two sections, the youth (up to 16 years) and the senior section (16+).

They also have qualified professional coaches who can provide a safe and fun environment for newcomers to try out rugby.

Mr Kirby said: "We will always welcome new members."
