SUCH great support was given to Staunton & District Women's branch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Fund sale that every one is thanked very much who attended and helped raise the splendid sum of £312.

Held in the lounge at Johnstone Close there was a variety of well stocked stalls, with Betty Awford manning the produce, Pat Taylor, new, Jane Langford, the Christmas gift stall, June Padley bric-a-brac, Gladys Barnes, books, Sybil Langford raffle, Pat Cresswell the doll raffle and Dave Padley did teas. It was a super effort by so small a branch.

At the AGM recently it was emphasised that the branch is looking for new members and to this end they hope to include three evening meetings in their programme for 2002 to enable people who work to attend. During the year the branch had celebrated the 80th anniversary of the RBL by holding an open party when a display of memorabilia could be seen.

All officers were re-elected Pat Taylor chairman, Betty Awford vice-chairman, Winnie Brunsdon secretary and Ivy Parry treasurer. During the year some members attended the special service in Gloucester Cathedral and county meetings. The branch includes the surrounding villages so please get in touch with the secretary if you are interested and help keep this branch doing their good work for the benefit of ex-service men and women and their families.
