MES Pinvin and District League

A BORROWED pair of glasses helped Ken Hobbs win the deciding singles as Masons overcame Pershore Town FC 5-4.

A 2-1 defeat on legs proved all the more frustrating for Ken Hobbs, whose spectacles were worn by the eagle-eyed winner.

There was a similar scoreline as Pinvin RBL won the last three singles to snatch the points against Chequers, with Gary Perks the Pinvin hero.

The sole undefeated player in the league - and possibly the oldest - is Swan's Harry Newman, while the only player yet to win a game is Denys Shaw (Queens).

Results: Pershore WMC 4, Queens 5; Chestnut 5, Bell 4; Old Oak 3, Swan 6; Pershore Town FC 4, Masons 5; Chequers 4, Pinvin RBL 5.

The league doubles competition, sponsored by Mad Hatters Cafe, Pershore, saw 19 pairs in action at Pershore Town FC, two of whom won through to finals night.

The winning pairs were Old Oak's George Beard and Brian Male and Stuart Brown and Harry Newman (Swan).

Seventeen pairs took to the tables at Pershore WMC where Andy McKay and Mark Shale (Swan) and Karen Izod and John Bird (Old Oak) progressed.
