A DISTRICT school has notched a double whammy after scoring top marks in the performance tables for Wyre Forest in both A-level and GCSE results.

Holy Trinity private girls school in Kidderminster outperformed every school in the district with an average GCSE/GNVQ point score of 61 - where an A* grade scores eight points and a G grade 1 - making it the fourth best in the county.

A-level pupils at the school scored an average 27.2, compared with an overall average for England of 17.4.

The percentage of pupils aged 15 achieving five or more C to A* GCSE grades was 90, down on last year's performance of 100.

Headteacher Elizabeth Thomas said: "I'm very pleased with the results which are a tribute to the hard work and commitment on both sides of pupils and staff.

"They show we're on target. We are keeping our high standards and bringing out the best in all our students."

Heathfield School, Wolverley, (7th in county) also independent selective, notched up an average 53.9 point score and scored a perfect 100 per cent of pupils getting a C to A* GCSE grade - up 20 per cent on 2000.

Bewdley High (28th) also improved on last year, with 59 per cent of pupils achieving five or more C to A* grades, up one per cent, with pupils scoring an average GCSE/GNVQ point score of 39.1 and A-level score of 17.6.

King Charles I, Kidderminster (33rd) bettered last year with 47 per cent of pupils achieving five or more C to A* grades - up two per cent -- netting an average GCSE/GNVQ point score of 35.8 and an A-level score of 20.

In Stourport, the town's high school-language college (37th) recorded a fall in its GCSE performance from 41 per cent in 2000 to 37 per cent this year with students achieving an average 33.3 points in GCSEs and 17.1 at A-level.

Harry Cheshire High, Kidderminster (40th) also saw GCSE results decline from 30 per cent getting grades C to A* in 2000 to 23 per cent this year. Students scored an average 23.6 points at GCSE level and 9.1 at A-level.

Wolverley High (32nd ) scored an average of 36.6 at GCSE with 37 per cent of pupils scoring grades C to A*, compared with 35 per cent the previous year, and an average 12.6 points at A-level.

Pupils at Hartlebury School (42nd), a non-selective independent school, scored an average of 16.8 points at GCSE level, with the percentage of pupils scoring C to A* grade tumbling from 27 per cent last year to 13 per cent.
