IT was ladies night at last Friday's Wychavon Sports Council Sports Personality of the Year awards night.

A trio of females took the top individual honours at the Hospital Club with youngsters Crystal MacLeod and Isobel Newman joined by leading official, Sue Collins on the winners' podium.

Crystal, a member of Evesham Rowing Club and pupil at Prince Henry's High School, was named Senior Sports Personality of the Year, while Isobel, a swimmer, biathlete and cross-country exponent, was awarded the prestigious junior title.

Sue, meanwhile, who is secretary of the Sports Council, was nominated for the Services to Sport award by the executive committee of the Wychavon group.

The mother and grandmother has been secretary for eight years and her hard work and dedication made her a worthy winner.

Sue also helps co-ordinate the Wychavon Parish Games and she was on hand to oversee the presentation of this year's trophies on the same night.

Before then, though, the Avon Valley Basketball Club's junior team were named Senior Team of the Year after losing just six matches during a busy season.

The Under-15s rugby squad at Prince Henry's - currently district, county and Midlands State Schools champions - were named Junior Team of the Year.
