POWICK Ramblers Work party tries to clear all the rights of way twice a year. However, due to the foot-and-mouth outbreak many were not done until late summer and some not all all. We would like to appeal for some help by regular walkers, especially those who use the same paths every day for dog walking.

How can this be done? Well if there are big problems, like fallen trees, either let the Rights of Way Department at the county council know or appeal to our Work Party Tel 01905 830094.

However if the overgrowth is just nettles dying down as winter approaches, or brambles, we suggest you carry clippers with you to clip them and walking sticks to beat back nettles and so on.

Recently, two of us have been trying to clear Footpath No 14 above the Powick Hams. Most of this had been cleared, but alas the steps down to the Hams were in a bad way.

People seeing growth on the steps had evidently decided to walk off the path and a track had appeared down the very steep bank. If only they had stuck to walking the steps and clipping the brambles, these would not have got so overgrown.

Would people please keep to the actual track and don't just take the easy way out.
