Pershore II 41pts, Alcester 12

PERSHORE finally managed to turn their domination of possession and territory into points for the first time this season.

After losing too many games through their inability to turn pressure into points they let loose in the second half as Alcester tried to come back into the game.

The first half was the same old story with Pershore in control but letting scoring opportunities go astray with simple knock-ons and forward passes.

Despite their frustration they did manage to turn round at half- time with a 13-point lead. That was thanks to two penalties and a conversion from Mark Sanders and a well-worked try which put No 8 Mike in under the posts after a move which swept from the halfway line.

Characteristic solid defence saw Alcester unable to get near the Pershore line.

At the start of the second half the visitors changed tactics and began to use their bigger pack to drive the ball forward.

Pershore lost their discipline a little and gave Alcester the opportunity to drive the ball over from a line-out.

This was always going to be just a momentary lapse, however, and with Lewis Dolphin jumping well in the line-out and the pack driving the larger visitors off their own ball Pershore finally began to put together consistent passages of play. With centre John Longbottom making huge inroads all game he was rewarded with a try after good work from Sanders.

Next, it was the turn of fly-half Dave Snell, with some sharp play from a ruck he pounced on loose ball and ran in unchallenged from halfway.

With Alcester beginning to chase the game more and more mistakes were being made and from one of those flanker Karl Wilkinson got a deserved try galloping in from distance.

Alcester did get a consolation as Pershore's concentration began to wane but the home side did get the final say as Snell put winger Spragg in space and he finished superbly to seal the match.

With all the tries converted it left Pershore happy with their day's work for once.
